The battle of Blood River

You maybe know that the colonial wars of the 19th century are my favourite topic.

Here are some photos I made in the Plassenburg museum in Kulmbach this summer.

Battle of the blood River in the 1830ies. Well they are in flats, but I think I can easy paint some of the metal or Strelets Boers to create the battle too in 1/72.

There is an old movie from South-Africa which I still search for my movie collection. Maybe somebody has it and can deal a copy?

See this trailer from Youtube

And here now some diorama photos

And I am wondering why there are no figures with such a big headband on the market:-)

A Marlburian battle in 1/72 - or 20mm

After all the flat-figure dioramas ( I have still more:-)) I thought a change to the "true" scale is urgent:-)

See here some photos from my friend Old John whose favourite period are the Marlburian wars.

Here we have a wargame in his playing room at which I had the honour to fight too!

Most of the figures are from the Les Higgins range from which John bought the original moulds and is now reproducing again. Beside the original figures he has a lot of conversions.
These figures are true 20mm, don't fit with for example Zvezda. On the other hand Strelets is not much a difference and as long as you don't mix figures within the units it works.

For those of you who are interested in the range, send a mail to John at cunnjoh@aol.com

East-Prussian National cavalry

Let's stay again with flats at the moment as our hobbyfriend Rainer sent me photos of his latest
diorama of this very exotic Prussian unit in the war of 1813/14

See here the East-Prussian national cavalry skirmishing. This reminds me that dismounted cavalry is still a huge gap in the 1/72 market.

At the moment my other friend Rainer is working on some dismounted French Hussars skirmishing, so hopefully we can fill this gap a little bit in 2014.

In case you are collecting 1/72 too this unit is available from Art-miniaturen.

BTW, the diorama is called "Wacht am Rhein" .

Retreat from Moscow - battle of the Berezina

Here now another flat-figure Diorama I have seen in the Plassenburg museum. I used the big photos so that you can zoom the details.

Belgian Carabiniers for Waterloo

And here the next work from Massimo, made for our hobbyfriend Pieter Verhuelst.

This unit I had in mind for a long time, one of the bigger ones at Waterloo. Around 400 of them fought there together with the two regiments of Dutch Carabiniers in Bicorne which we will convert from them too.

I think this unit is a must for every Waterloo diorama.

Torhaus Dölitz flat-figure museum

Krisztian fought as Reenactor at the battle of Leipzig in October. He had the chance to visit
the museum in Dölitz and sent me a bunch of his 1st class photos over. Enjoy them!
